Virtual lounge for software developers goes online

PTV launches DevelopersZone / New xServer releases now available

Karlsruhe, Germany, May 20, 2010. A new development forum goes online: PTV provides a new platform for information exchange and news on its logistical and geographical software components and its Software Developer Kit (SDK).  This site is geared to allow software developers to discuss their specific issues with PTV experts and to keep up-to-date on the latest trends via Twitter or the "PTV Develogger" blog. Moreover, the PTV xServer version 1.10 is now available.

The "virtual lounge for developers" at www.developer.ptv.de is clearly structured and provides the latest information on PTV's xServers, the MapServer and the MobilityPlatform. Intermediate and pre-releases can thus be downloaded easily. The new code sample browser shows various use cases and code samples which can be immediately integrated into the customer's applications developed using PTV's xServers. New users can order a demo version on CD-ROM.

Our aim was to provide a wealth of information and, at the same time,  establish a developer community," explains Frank Felten, Vice President Logistics Product Management, PTV AG.

New releases are now available: xServer 1.10
The new PTV xServer release is based on Java6 which makes the geographical and logistical software components run even faster. The standardised and simplified architecture of the geo-components improves customer database management, for example. This makes it easier to integrate address data, to geocode and display them on a map or to search within a specific radius of a route.

Geocoding now generates clearer results which is another useful improvement. For example, each address element is displayed and the user can quickly identify which data records need to be adjusted.

Further highlights of the new version are the so-called traffic patterns and up-to-date traffic information during the routing process. Traffic patterns are based on complex traffic models and describe the traffic situation on a road segment depending on the weekday and time of day. They ensure that the calculated journey time becomes even more realistic.  Moreover, they include up-to-the-minute traffic information.

The xServers support open data formats such as OGC WKT (Well Known Text of the Open Geospatial Consortium), OGC WKB (Well Known Binary) and Google KML (Keyhole Markup Language) so that data can be easily exchanged with other systems.
