ASSET-Road
The project analyses the interaction between road, vehicle and driver, with the aim to identify critical parameters that influence road safety. Furthermore, structures will be developed to enable the exchange of safety information between road, vehicle and driver.
Several models and technologies will be developed and enhanced:
- The next generation of weight detection equipment will be developed. It measures the weight on the mono-wheel as well as the weight on the axles and the tire pressure with a flat road surface sensor
- Highly sensitive infrared cameras are used to automatically detect damaged tires and brakes of heavy goods vehicles, leading to a system ready for production.
- A 3D camera system for height detection of the vehicle will be tested.
- The driver behaviour will be monitored over long distances by using a video system. Furthermore, a software product will be developed that identifies the vehicle on each camera picture and examines regulation breaches.
- Models will be created for the optimisation of road life cycles. The time graphs of he HGVs‘ weight on the road surface will be modelled. Moreover, detection sensors will be further developed and tested.
The main objective of the project is the integration of information from different sources into one compact system and the systematic choice of relevant information and its provision to authorities that need it.
