FeedMAP

For the past years, the importance of accurate and up-to-date map information has increased dramatically. Digital maps are seen as a kind of "new vehicle sensor" which recognises objects or dangerous curves before the driver or other sensors see them. The earlier project ActMAP already prepared the way by flexibly updating the map data in the vehicle. In the project FeedMAP, vehicles helped to record map errors, so that a cycle of information occurs: The data travels from the vehicle to the map control centre using FeedMAP and from the map headquarters to the vehicle.

A cooperative system for map feedback and updating meant that cooperation between data owners and data users could be improved. The objective of the project is to assess the extent to which the vehicles can generate correction data using the feedback loop to the map centre. As soon as map errors have been discovered and corrected, the ActMAP framework is then used to update the vehicles.

Together, ActMAP and FeedMAP concepts focus on a cooperative environment between road users and map providers. Current map data was collected, analysed and provided. Using the combination, the road users shall enhance the map update process for all the other road users using the intelligent communication infrastructure, the in-vehicle map data base and the sensors.
