VISSIM application examples (AVI videos)

VISSIM application examples (AVI videos)

All AVI files have been generated by means of the built-in VISSIM Keyframe Editor (except for the macroscopic example). Some examples have been enhanced and edited using an external video-editing software. Video playback requires either the “x264” or the "XVid" video codec (see also FAQ #91 ).

Tram priority scheme in roundabouts

Public transport priority schemes
Analysis of bus and light rail acceleration measures based on individual prioritization parameters for signal control (e.g. express train control).

Toll roads and customs' checkpoints
Modeling checkpoints (e.g. at toll gates or border crossing points).

Section control systems

Traffic management
Analyses considering alternative route control, traffic flow control, special lanes and section control systems.

Major road networks
Feasibility analysis of large networks (e.g. motorways) with alternative route choice using dynamic assignment. Display of macroscopic parameters based on micro-simulation.

More than pure traffic simulation: VISSIM + VISWALK

The following examples show how the integration of VISSIM with VISWALK realistically simulates interactions between pedestrian and vehicle flows. The XVid codec (www.xvid.org) is required to play the downloaded AVI files.

Brandenburg Gate, Berlin/Germany

Integrated network model
Simulation of dedicated lane use and shared traffic areas including all relevant road users.

Underground Station

Public transport optimization
Simulation and visualization of bus/underground connections. 3D modeling of an underground station with different levels.

Demand-based PRT system (Personal Rapid Transit)

PRT system (Personal Rapid Transit)
Case study of a demand-based PRT system making use of VISSIMs API (application programming interface). External control strategies are implemented for vehicle assignment, station operation, routing and empty vehicle management. The API allows for any kind of control strategies to be implemented for the simulation.

Interaction between different road users

Interaction between pedestrians and vehicles

The integration of VISWALK in VISSIM is the only microscopic traffic simulation which allows interactive consideration of vehicles and pedestrians on the level of single increments.

Different walking behavior and interaction at traffic signal systems (e.g. pedestrians who ignore red lights)

Any number of pedestrian categories with different types of walking and waiting behavior can be modeled in VISWALK. In combination with VISSIM, this example presents a pedestrian crossing with pedestrian-actuated traffic lights, distinguishing three types of pedestrian behavior patterns: pedestrians who wait for the green light, pedestrians who do not press the traffic light button and ignore the red light, and those who press the button and cross the road despite the WAIT sign. The pedestrians are displayed in different colors to better distinguish their different behavior patterns.
