New algorithm for user equilibrium traffic assignment: LUCE in VISUM
LUCE (Linear user Cos Equilibrium) was conceived by Professor Guido Gentile who during 2008 collaborated closely with PTV to produce a practical implementation of the method in VISUM. LUCE represents a step change from the earlier path-based equilibrium assignment by improving runtime, convergence and path proportionality.
Speeding up the computationally intense
procedures through parallelisation
With the help of Multi-Threading each task is split into multiple parts (threads) which run concurrently. The timetable-based assignment e.g. can run six times faster on computers with 8 core processors than so far.
Integration of the VISEM demand model (tour-based demand model)
The integration offers you numerous advantages, amongst others:
- VISEM as part of VISUM can use the network data model to store, manage and visualize zone data (structural data, demographics), and can share matrices directly with the assignment.
- Feedback loops between demand model steps and assignment can be expressed in a single procedure flow without external scripting.
New Impedance models specific to roundabouts
For the control type of nodes in VISUM 11 there is roundabout as a further option within ICA. There are two impedance models especially for roundabouts.
Optimisation of signal coordination
VISUM 11 provides signal optimization routines for
- green splits (green time/cycle time),
- cycle times
- and offsets (coordination),
of both signal group-based and stage-based signal controls.
Powerful new line blocking operation and enhanced block data model
That implies amongst others:
- The new algorithm explicitly handles depot locations and capacities.
- Vehicle cost rates for vehicle journeys, empty trips, standstill period and stay in depot.
- The number of line blocks corresponds exactly to the movements of a physical vehicle, since the vehicles can go back to the depot during one line block.
Data model
User defined private transport paths (PrT) with editable volumes
VISUM 11 extends the concept of PrT assignment routes.
PrT paths with volumes can be freely edited (both volume and course) and, unlike assignment results, survive editing operations on the network.
User Interface
Junction editor with signal plan editor
The user interface is being improved in VISUM 11 by the introduction of a completely new junction editor which allows you to model all relevant details of an intersection. This reaches from the node and turn attributes all the way through the whole junction model.
Simultaneous editing of several line route courses shape
In VISUM 11 it is possible to edit the line course of several line routes simultaneously. The handling is according to the known editing of a single line route course.
By using this extension e.g. all the line routes which are affected by a planned construction work can be deflected all together.
User-friendly line route edit dialog
The line route edit dialog has been redesigned completely and also the usability has been improved for VISUM 11. All relevant data of the line route course can be edited at a glance.
Smart Map -
Total network view in an additional window
While you are working in the network view, a small floating view of the full network will highlight with a red rectangle the currently visible part of the network.
